One year after its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons and a year before it became a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Available Light Theatre produced the regional premiere of Dance Nation by Clare Barron with a focus on the anarchic world of pre-teen competitive dancers. I worked closely with one of my undergraduate students, Alyssa Thompson, as Assistant Scene Designer. We created an environment that was evocative, not only of dance studios and stages, but of the alternating chaos and tenderness of adolescence. Richard Sanford of the Columbus Underground described it as:

"...one of the best plays I’ve seen all year."
