The for/word company produces new work created from the historical record. We build our playtexts exclusively out of written material from the archive and libraries. We create our productions with deeply integrated scenography and a focus on bringing historical figures to life.
I currently serve as Producer and Resident Designer for the company which I co-founded in 2008. We have produced works around the country, including Off-Broadway. Most recently, we premiered Patience Worth in 2017, the design for which you can read more about in my section on Creative Practice.
As producer for Patience Worth, I administered a budget of over $26,ooo, managed over $10,000 of Equity contracts for our actors and stage manager, oversaw transportation and housing for our full team on tour, arranged venue rental and liaised with the Kranzberg Arts Center, acquired liability insurance for all productions, and provided technical management throughout the process.
From fundraising to board relations, the administration of a nonprofit business is no small task. However, this work connects directly to my scholarship in the business of making, my artistic practice in the creation of new work, and my pedagogy that bridges from the university to the profession.
