Mandy Fox's production of Heathers, the Musical leaned toward the dark and dangerous aspects of the story. I worked with undergraduate Alyssa Thompson as Assistant Scene Designer. We looked at horror movies from the period to set the tone for the unit set that was filled with dusty remnants of 1980's high school paraphernalia. The central windows took shadows from upstage and opened for dramatic entrances. Expanded steel flooring gave opportunities for lighting and fans below the platforms to accentuate scenes. The Columbus Dispatch’s Margaret Quamme noted:
“Brad Steinmetz’s eerie, seemingly dust-covered and constantly shift set … add to the sense of shadowy terror…”
